Makers Landing at the V&A Waterfront

Space for local foodie talent to grow, and a market for authentic South Africa food

In December 2020, a brand new district of the V&A Waterfront opened for young local foodie talent. Makers Landing is a food community, where the brightest minds in food hone their skills. Plus, it is home to a market where you can sample the freshest flavours in the country.

FIND FUTURE STARS OF THE FOOD SCENE
Makers Landing is a space for budding food entrepreneurs to innovate, learn and grow their businesses. The space was developed in partnership with the National Treasury’s Jobs Fund, with a R63-million investment aimed to create opportunities for these future stars of the foodie scene. Food experts will share skills, nurture and coach young talent, helping to build these new businesses in the food industry. This kitchen incubator will be at the core of Makers Landing.

SAMPLE SOUTH AFRICA’S FRESHEST FLAVOURS
The other part of the Makers Landing space is a vibey food market where you can get classic authentic and affordable South African food. Think shisanyama, samosas and gatsbys: classic, simple South African food.

Makers Landing is located just near the cruise terminal, so passengers will enter South Africa through the food market. Here they can sample real, down-to-earth local food.

“Makers Landing will be an industrial, repurposed space that meets the vision of an inclusive, inspiring, authentic space of learning, growth and connection”, according to the V&A Waterfront.

A curated list of tenants also call the new space home, including Abalobi, who will be selling sustainable fish from the space. Also butchers, bakeries, a wine bar, a brewery, and a coffee roastery.
