La Grapperia is the German-Italian bistro and pizzeria right next to the Wilderer Distillery at the  Spice Route, Paarl.

They might not have sea views, but they have sandy white sand, sun loungers, a cute bar serving bespoke cocktails crafted with Wilderer Distilleries’ award winning spirits and mixed with top quality craft mixers, and a variety of  snacky and filling dishes like “sexy snails” (served naked) for starters and specialty meals like eisbein, kassler, wiener schnitzel (crumbed veal schnitzel), and more.

FANCY FLAMMKUCHEN, FRESH BREAD, OR BELGIAN WAFFLES?

Choose from a diverse selection of wood-fired, thin based pizza, rated the best on that side of the winelands or flammkuchen, which is a thin, crisp pizza base, topped with cream cheese, bacon, garlic, and onion.

Traditionally, visitors are given a choice of dry red or white wine and one flammkuchen is served after another for everyone around the table to share from the wooden board. Fresh bread and platters are also available, so is dessert, from Belgian waffles, tiramisu, creme brulee, cheesecake, apfelstrudel to homemade ice cream.

But it’s a beach bar, afterall, so it’s a hangout spot to relax with friends and family. Kick off your shoes and relax with cocktail in hand on a lounger under umbrellas on the sandy white beach with a beautiful panoramic view of the winelands, reaching as far as Table Mountain almost 70km away!

INDULGE IN BESPOKE COCKTAILS

Their drinks menu is lush. Each cocktail is developed with care by La Grapperia’s Executive Chef, Kobus Pretorius, and maestro distiller Johan Monning. A must try is the rum cocktail made with the new Rogue rum. Other cocktails are just as good, like the Fynbos Mojito, Dead South (Rogue Apple Pie Moonshine, ginger ale, lemon juice, and lots of ice), and New Fashioned. They also have various drinks on tap, including gin, beer, and wine. On the extra sunny days, enjoy a Wilderer Gin & Tonic slushy.
